A very special place
The service at the Londonderry Arms was
exceptional. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nothing was too much trouble. We were on a
walking holiday and the staff were very helpful
regarding local walks and places to visit. The
hotel is very inviting, with spacious lounges
for relaxing over tea or coffee, with comforting
roaring fires. Excellent food freshly prepared.
I cannot think of anything they could have done
better and all at a very reasonable cost! |

Geology and Archeology
No part of the British Isles holds greater interest for the
geologist than the coastline of County Antrim from Larne to
Portrush. There are schist's over 300 million years old, the
largest lava field in the British Isles formed 50-70 million years
ago with glens eroded by retreating glaciers and raised beaches
resulting from the land rising when the enormous weight of the ice
had melted. The area is rich in ancient monuments, ecclesiastical
sites, raths, souterrains, and chambered Cairns. There is a Stone
Age weapon factory at Tievebuliagh, early Celtic settlements,
Megalithic monuments and giant graves. There is an active
Historical Society and members are delighted to meet visitors
exploring the area. |

Gardens
Visit the Glenarm Castle and Walled Gardens during your stay
in Northern Ireland and you will not be disappointed. The Walled
Garden and Tea Room is open from May to September (Wed-Sun) with
an annual Tulip Festival as well as other events throughout the
season.
If you are interested in falconry there are, throughout
the season, three unique shows which cover a wide range of raptor
species from all over the world.
Drive along the Coast Road to the Carnfunnock Country Park
which consists of 473 acres of mixed woodland. There are colourful
gardens, ponds, walking trails and coastline. The attraction here
is the unique sundials in the walled gardens and you can get lost
for a while in the maze! There is something for everyone from an
orienteering course, golf, adventure playground and even a
miniature railway. There is an admission charge to the car park. |
