Walking
*
WaterfallThere are numerous walks to enjoy near to the hotel, and also further afield around the coast, depending on the time you wish to take. Within minutes of the hotel, stroll along the beach or Carnlough's picturesque harbour. Near the hotel is the Cranny/ Gortin walk to the Cranny Falls. This is considered an easy walk with an estimated walking time of 1 hour. You have the opportunity to explore Gortin Quarry as well as taking in the views across Carnlough Bay. Follow the signs from the quarry to the Cranny Falls and you will have the chance to see red squirrels and a profusion of wild flowers. View the waterfall on the viewing platform over the Carnlough River.

Other walks recommended are the Glenarm Forest taking 10 mins/40 mins. This beautiful forest can be found just a five minute drive south to the neighbouring village of Glenarm, the oldest village in the glens. Also to be enjoyed is Glenarm Coastal Walk, an easy walk on flat ground and with facilities for picnics. A more moderate walk is the Layde Walk in and around Glenarm with viewpoints where you can capture the beauty on camera. For the more adventurous of walkers there is always the Scawt Hill (pron. 'Skat'). Follow the signs of the Ulster Way, to Sallagh Braes, which boasts a spectacular ampitheatre. This is along country roads in the upper reaches of Glenarm Glen which is one of the Nine Glens of Antrim. Picturesque views can be seen from here, and if you follow the Ulster Way marked routes back to the car park, walkers can find two information panels about local souterrains and American connections.

Thirty minutes north of Carnlough lies Glenariff Forest Park where there are wonderful glen walks and waterfalls with beautiful scenic paths leading to viewpoints where you can take in the wonder of such a magnificent view across to the Scottish coastline. Visit the Exhibition Centre while you are there and stop at the cafe.

A final route worth exploring is Slemish Mountain which is only a 20 minute drive from the hotel. This volcanic plug, is the place where St Patrick herded sheep as a sixteen year old slave. You can drive to the foot of Slemish before climbing to 1500ft above sea level and on reaching the summit this provides you with a breathtaking view of the Antrim Plateau.
