Workshop and Events Programme for 2009/2010
This historic hotel built by the Marchioness of Londonderry
over 160 years ago, and later inherited by her great grandson
Sir Winston Churchill in the 1920's, has been the inspiration for
many paintings, stories and books. It was also used as a setting
for a film in 2003.
Situated in the coastal village of Carnlough at the foot of
the picturesque Glencloy, second of the Nine Glens of Antrim,
the hotel is surrounded by a wealth of beautiful scenery ever
changing throughout the year. So this year we have put together a
programme of workshops and events for our guests so they can enjoy
the beauty of the area and record it in words through a Writers
Workshop with guidance from Alf McCreary, well-known award-winning
journalist; by painting in our Watercolour Workshop, with local
artist Paul Holmes, UWS ASUA; even with their camera at our Digital
Photography Workshop with Gerald Gribbon, Photo Artist and for the
more energetic a guided walk through Glencloy and over Carnlough
Hills to view the heritage of long forgotten industry that existed
from bygone eras with Allan Hamilton and his team from Treasure
Trails, and then each evening relaxing beside cosy log fires in the
welcoming atmosphere of the Londonderry Arms Hotel.
If you would like to learn a new craft we have arranged for
Mrs Kathleen Gill to come along and introduce the art of
Carrickmacross Lace Making. Kathleen will provide all materials
required and with her expert tuition will help you create your
first piece of lace.
We have also included a price if you wish to bring along
friends of family who may not want to take part in the Workshop
but who would also enjoy a relaxing break in the Glens of Antrim.
So while you brush up on your skills you friend can take a
walk through the village or up to the scenic Cranny Falls, book
into one of the local beauty salons and have a pamper session,
visit Ballymena or Larne for some retail therapy, or just curl up
in front of an open fire and enjoy a good book.
Our events include a Burn's Night in January. We hope there
is something for everyone to enjoy.
